A museum in Kingsport, Tennessee, preserved the roots of Appalachian music and the traditions that developed into bluegrass and country, with a special focus on East Tennessee and nearby parts of several Appalachian states. Operated by the nonprofit Appalachian Cultural Music Association, founded in 1998 by Tim White and James Bryant, it grew from an earlier Bristol site that also hosted live performances as The Pickin' Porch Show. Its exhibits featured instruments, recordings, photographs, memorabilia, and artists such as the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Flatt & Scruggs, and the Stanley Brothers. After moving to Kingsport in 2018, it closed in 2019, but remained part of a regional effort to preserve Appalachian musical heritage.
