The joining together of many stores produced Saline's first major business block. The all wood framed buildings served the community from c 1830 to 1881 when a fire destroyed the entire block. Rebuilt of brick in the Italianate Style it prospered again as a business center housing drug and clothing stores as well as the ticket office for the Old Maud Electric Car to Ypsilanti. In the late 20th century renovation of this downtown landmark has again joined together a variety of businesses to serve the community.
