One mile north stood Lawnvale, the home of Dr. T. C. Atkeson, who headed the Grange for many years, served as dean of the West Virginia College of Agriculture, authored many works on agriculture, and for nearly 50 years was a leader among American farmers. This was also the birthplace of William Hope “Coin” Harvey, son of Colonel Robert Harvey, who later built a pyramid at Monte Ne, Arkansas, and wrote “Coin’s Financial School” in 1894 and other works on finance that proposed silver inflation.
