Taxpayers of CoalCounty voted a bond issue totaling $454,323.56 to construct a new courthouse. The bond was issued on June 1, 1968, supported by a tax levy of 1/2 mil, and the debt was paid on June 1, 1990. The architect was Turnbull and Mills, Inc., and the engineers were Eudaley-McMinimy and Assoc. County commissioners during the years the bond was paid were Sam Nelson, District 3; Willie Watkins, District 2; Archie Angel, District 1; Bill Sandmann, District 2; Harry Farris, District 2; Gary Coffee, District 1; J.N. Flint, District 3; Johnny D Ward, District 2; and Billy C. Jones, District 1. County Treasurer Norma Palmer served from 1968 to 1990.
