Union Pacific Railroad donated locomotive 6072 to Fort Riley on 7 February 1958 for display as a symbol of contribution toward development of the midwest subsequent to 1865. Manufactured as a coal steam engine in 1908, it was converted to an oil burner in 1941 and was used continuously on Mid-Western lines for 49 years. Through the joint efforts of Union Pacific and the 1st Engineer Battalion, the locomotive was moved to this site on 6 June 1958. Unloaded, the engine weighed 110 tons, the tender 30 tons, and the total 140 tons; loaded, the engine weighed 110 tons, the tender 81 tons, and the total 191 tons. The engine measured 38 ft, the tender 34 ft, and the total length 72 ft.
