Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park near Port Richey on the Gulf of Mexico preserves four miles of Pasco County coastal waters on the Atlantic coastal plain. It is named for a saltwater spring about 98 meters, or 320 feet, deep, a defining feature of a landscape that blends shoreline, waterways, and a small developed visitor area. The park supports recreation such as picnicking, boating, fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing while also protecting diverse habitat for gray foxes, gopher tortoises, alligators, West Indian manatees, and about 150 bird species. Its name came from a contest won by Hudson Elementary classmates Robert Pullen and CJ Bennett.
