French Post was probably the site occupied by Nicolas Perrot in 1685–86, later reoccupied by Godefroy de Linctot. Its remains were discovered in 1887 by Judge B.F. Heuston and George H. Squier, aided by Antoine Grignon, and it was dedicated on September 6, 1926 by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin.
