Fort McIntosh was the first United States military post north of the Ohio. It stood on River Road, in the area between Bank, Insurance, and Market Streets. Built in 1778, it was the scene of the Treaty of Fort McIntosh in 1785 and also served as a survey base. It was abandoned in 1791.
