Hassenplug Bridge in Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, spans the west or south branch of Buffalo Creek and dates to 1825, making it the oldest covered bridge in Pennsylvania and sometimes cited as the oldest in the United States, though that national claim is disputed. The 80-foot bridge uses a Burr Truss, combining an arch with a multiple-kingpost truss. It was overhauled in 1959 and restored again in 2022, when wide wooden planks replaced a steel grate floor added earlier. Named for the Hassenplug family, whose nearby homestead and German beer production linked it to local settlement life, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
