Halfway Run Natural Area is a 407-acre protected landscape in central Pennsylvania within Bald Eagle State Forest near R.B. Winter State Park. Extending along both banks of Halfway Run, it preserves terrain shaped by glaciation that is unusual in this part of the state. The area is particularly known for its many pingo scars, pond-filled depressions formed when ice-cored mounds collapsed after the glacial age. Halfway Run is recognized as a stream of unimpaired quality where wild trout reproduce naturally, and in spring its branches feed vernal pools that provide breeding habitat for amphibians.
