Kooser State Park is a 250-acre wooded mountain park in Pennsylvania centered on the 4-acre man-made Kooser Lake and closely tied to the surrounding Forbes State Forest. Its land was bought by the Commonwealth in 1922 after old-growth timber had been cut, and in the 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corps transformed the site by building the lake dam, roads, cabins, and fireplaces in a rustic style that still shapes the park. The area also holds older local associations, including reported American Indian conflict, Whiskey Rebellion travel, and the settlement of John Kooser. Its CCC cabin district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
