Tuskegee National Forest lies in eastern Alabama in Macon County, just north of Tuskegee and west of Auburn. Its gently rolling landscape includes broad ridges, stream terraces, and wide floodplains. Though the smallest national forest in the United States and one of the few located entirely within a single county, it remains an important protected landscape in a largely rural region. Outdoor recreation is central to its character, with hiking and mountain biking trails, part of the Bartram Trail, horse trails, fish ponds, a shooting range, a wildlife viewing area, primitive camping, and the Taska Recreation Area. Forest administration is based in Montgomery, with local offices in Tuskegee.
