Jones-Confluence Point State Park occupies 1,121 acres on the north side of the Missouri River at its meeting with the Mississippi, preserving a major historic and ecological landscape in Missouri. This river junction was the departure point for the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804 and the place where it ended. Assembled in the early 2000s with support from the Danforth Foundation, the property was conveyed in 2001 to public agencies and opened in 2004. The park is intended for both recreation and restoration, with efforts to re-create a natural floodplain and with simple amenities that emphasize birdwatching, trails, the rivers, and the significance of the confluence.
