Pohatcong Mountain
Nature
Pohatcong Mountain is a long, narrow Appalachian ridge in northwestern New Jersey, extending about 6 miles through eastern Warren County from west of Phillipsburg toward Allamuchy Township and continuing north past Washington as Upper Pohatcong Mountain. Averaging roughly 800 feet in elevation and rising to 1,235 feet at its highest point, it is less a single peak than a dividing highland. Its ridge separates the watershed of Pohatcong Creek on the northwest from that of the Musconetcong River on the southeast, making it one of the defining landforms in this part of New Jersey’s Appalachian landscape.
