Bethany United Brethren Church Bell
Faith
In 1897, as the congregation grew, its members decided to construct a new building at the junction of County Roads C and 13 just southeast of Wauseon, Ohio. The church had a bell tower, and the bell had two ropes, one for ringing the bell to remind members to attend church and one for tolling the bell to announce that a member of the congregation had passed away. Due to the size of the bell tower and depending on weather conditions, the bell could sometimes be heard for five or six miles across the fields. The church was torn down in 1967, but the bell was saved through the efforts of Henry zumFelde.
