After Bosque County was organized in 1854, one of the three polling places in its first election was under this tree. Of the 21 votes cast in the county on August 7, 1854, 17 were cast here, with J.K. Helton serving as election judge. The officials elected were L.H. Scrutchfield as judge, P. Bryant as sheriff, Jasper N. Mabray as clerk, Isaac Gary as assessor-collector, and Archibald Kell as treasurer. In later years, the Bosque County Old Settlers Association held reunions at this site by courtesy of landowner Tom M. Pool, and the place was known locally as Pool Park.
