Pumpkin Island Light stands on a small island off Little Deer Island in Maine, where it marked the northwestern entrance to Eggemoggin Reach linking Penobscot Bay and Blue Hill Bay. Chosen in 1852 as part of efforts to improve navigation on the east side of Penobscot Bay, the light was built beginning in 1854 and entered service the next year. It operated until 1933. The station remains significant as a well-preserved small coastal light station, with its round brick tower, keeper’s house, oil house, and boathouse still surviving. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and is now privately owned.
