The first meeting house of the inhabitants of East Parish was erected here in 1784, and the congregation, now Grace Congregational UCC in Rutland, was formally organized in 1788. Major William Barr deeded the property to the church, and this was also the site of the first burying ground deeded to East Parish by Major Barr in 1800. The Reverend Samuel Williams, the church's first settled pastor, and the Honorable Samuel Williams, founder of the Rutland Herald and the church's first deacon, are interred here.
