W.H. “Billy” Brown was born in Georgia and came to Texas with his parents in 1857. He and his brother, John, were Texas Rangers, with Billy serving from June to December 1874. Brown was the last man killed by Indians in Runnels County, dying in a fight to regain stolen horses.
