Spruce Hole Bog is a protected bog in Durham, New Hampshire, about 2 miles west of the town center. Occupying a true kettle hole, it is recognized as a complete ecological community and is especially important as an example of a typical sphagnum-heath bog in a specialized geologic setting. That significance led to its designation as a National Natural Landmark in 1972. Durham owns the bog and has conserved 35 acres around it. Although called Spruce Hole, the surrounding forest is mainly white pine, hemlock, and birch, and the bog adjoins the permanently conserved, town-owned Oyster River Forest.
