On October 26, 1900, the people of Marlinton held a grand celebration to welcome the first train into their town, with a ball, speakers, and sporting events. Soon afterward, a train station was built to serve the traveling public and numerous freight customers. The Marlinton Railroad Depot became part of the Greenbrier Division of the C&O Railway, linking Ronceverte and Durban, West Virginia. Its original construction included three rooms: a waiting room, an office for the station agent, and a large freight room. After a devastating fire, the depot was restored to its original appearance. A portion of the original track remains in place, and the depot now serves as an artisan co-op where local artists display and sell their art.
