Pismo State Beach
Nature
Pismo State Beach is a protected 17-mile stretch of Pacific shoreline on California’s Central Coast, extending along Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, and Oceano. Its broad sandy beach and dune landscape make it a major recreational destination for camping, hiking, swimming, surfing, and fishing, and the shore is closely linked with the well-known Pismo clam. The park is also valued for wildlife, including marine life, coastal birds, and the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove, where large numbers of monarch butterflies overwinter from November to February. Its visitor center further interprets the area’s natural, cultural, and recreational history through exhibits, programs, and guided walks.
