The Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio, is one of the largest nonprofit arboretums and botanical gardens in the United States, spanning more than 3,600 acres of gardens, curated collections, and protected natural habitats. Created from the vision and trust of Albert Fairchild Holden and formally established in 1931 on land donated by Roberta Holden Bole and Benjamin P. Bole, it is especially noted for woody plants suited to northern Ohio and for collections with both ornamental and scientific value. Its work also includes stewardship of sensitive natural areas, ecological research, plant conservation, and public programs that unite science, education, and outdoor experience.
