This former U.S. Coast Guard facility was built in 1939, restored by the Douglas County Park Department, and dedicated as a public recreation facility on June 19, 1980. Those associated with this effort included the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Douglas County Park Advisory Board, with Bill Vian, Bruce Long, Paul Makinson, Bill Strobridge, Pete Mulder, Richard Smith, Orval Peterson, Dr. Charles Wilson, and Park Director Tom Keel.
