St. John's Methodist Church was built in 1910 during the pastorate of Dr. Robt. Goodrich for a congregation founded in 1900 in Sledge Hall under Rev. S. Gay. With its 100-foot tower, it was long the tallest church between Dallas and El Paso. It served the community of old Stamford College, now McMurry, and had had 33 pastors by 1964.
