Robert E. "Bob" Vohs was remembered as an "all american" citizen whose commitment and devotion to his country, community, and family came before himself. He was an active member of the Hoisington Chamber, served as city councilman, was a director on the Chamber Board, and was Chamber President in 1974 and 1975. During his presidency, he helped initiate the PRIDE Program in Hoisington and laid the groundwork for Cardinal Apartments, the community's Senior Citizen Apartments, along with other smaller projects. After retiring from his Insurance Agency, he devoted more time to the Chamber and other civic organizations, becoming known as the "Chamber Handyman" for fixing maintenance problems at the Chamber office and turning community ideas into reality. His work included an underground sprinkler system for the Chamber yard, a cedar fence south of the office, a 4' x 8' Hoisington logo, a self-propelled Chamber float frame, and extensive improvements to Santa's House, including a new roof and chimney, steel siding, interior redecoration, and added exterior decorations. He was an Honorary Chamber Ambassador, helped start the Ambassador Club, was named 1982 Hoisington Citizen of the Year, served as Labor Day Grand Marshall in 1982, was a member of the Goldenbelt Score Chapter for the Chamber, and was active on numerous Chamber committees, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Hoisington Masonic Lodge, and other community groups. He could always be counted on to help with community projects and was greatly missed.
