Jubilee College was founded by Bishop Philander Chase to train Episcopal ministers for service in the frontier West. His plans called for a large Gothic Revival-style building for the men’s college and theological seminary, with smaller buildings for a boys’ preparatory school and a school for girls. Those ambitions were never fully realized, as students in the traditional college and the boys’ and girls’ schools outnumbered the few men studying for the priesthood, and the elaborate main college building was never built.
