William Sleet, a Black abolitionist and blacksmith, lived here and was a prominent member of the Underground Railroad operation in Felicity, a very important community that helped escaped slaves to freedom. Other key stations in the village included the Wesleyan Church at 305 Main St., the Felicity Cemetery on Light Street, the homes of Andrew Powell at 416 Union St. and Arthur Fee at 1 Moores Ln., and the store of Oliver Perry Spencer Fee at 208 Main St.
