The Edward C. Waller Apartments, a multifamily residential building on West Walnut Street in Chicago, were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1895. Named for developer Edward C. Waller, who became prominent after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the project reflected his effort to create subsidized housing for lower-income residents. Despite that goal, each unit was arranged as a complete home with a parlor, bedroom or chamber, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and closets. The building is significant as an early work by Wright and as one of Chicago’s oldest buildings used for subsidized housing, later recognized as a Chicago Landmark in 1994.
