Mashes Sands is a beachfront county park in Wakulla County, Florida, on a small peninsula between Ochlockonee Bay and Apalachee Bay with broad views over the Gulf of Mexico. The site has a modest Civil War connection: on July 15, 1863, the Union vessels USS Stars and Stripes and USS Somerset attacked salt works there, underscoring the wartime importance of coastal salt production. In later years, Mashes Sands became known as a local waterfront recreation area. The area is also served by Wakulla County Airport near Panacea, and in June 2007 it was used as a filming location for the student film Apotheosis.
