Yent Mound is an archaeological site on Alligator Harbor west of St. Teresa on Florida’s Gulf Coast that was built by people of the Deptford culture around the beginning of the Current Era. Also identified as a Santa Rosa-Swift Creek culture site, it occupies an important place in the region’s long cultural sequence. The site is especially significant in Southeastern archaeology because William Sears used discoveries here, along with Pierce Mound and Crystal River Mounds, to define the Yent complex. Artifacts from the site have been linked to the broader Hopewell tradition and show that Gulf Coast communities took part in long-distance exchange networks.
