Silver Mountain is a 10,525-foot peak in Huerfano County, Colorado, in the southern Sangre de Cristo Range of the Southern Rocky Mountains, northeast of Mount Mestas and north of the Spanish Peaks. It was once called Dike Mountain for the many magmatic dikes radiating from its base. In the 1870s, after miners discovered gold and silver deposits nearby, it was renamed Silver Mountain. The mountain's two names reflect different parts of its past: the older name tied to its geology, and the newer one preserving a brief connection to local mining.
