Established by the Louisiana Lumber Company of Glenmora, Louisiana Logging Camp became a small town in 1923 with a hotel, commissary, oil and pump house, machine shop, and office building that also housed the post office. It included forty houses for the families of white workers and sixteen houses for the families of African American workers. Like other logging camps, it provided housing for loggers and their families near the forest work site, but it was unusual for its size, population, and permanent type of construction, even though logging camps were often temporary and their buildings moveable. Its residents received electricity in 1934 when the company bought electrical equipment from the Hotel Bentley in Alexandria, and in 1935 the Works Progress Administration installed sanitary toilets in each residence. Electric lights and indoor plumbing were rare amenities for houses in rural Louisiana during the 1930s. In its final years, Louisiana Logging Camp was purchased by Hillery, Edwards, Fuller Inc., which operated it until 1941.
