Black Mountain
Nature
Black Mountain is a prominent summit in Nevada’s McCullough Range south of the Las Vegas Valley, within the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area on Bureau of Land Management land. Beyond its role in the desert skyline, it serves as an important communications site for Las Vegas-area television and radio towers. Trails converge nearby, with BLM Trail 404 providing a strenuous 6.8-mile out-and-back route to the summit that includes class two scrambling near the top and is popular for hiking and trail running. The mountain is also notable for frequent confusion with a different unnamed Henderson-area peak, despite Black Mountain’s recognized location farther south in the range.
