The U.S.S. Rasher (SS 269) had her keel laid on 4 May 1942, was launched on 20 December 1942, and was commissioned on 8 June 1943. On 3 October 1943 she departed Darwin, Australia, to begin her first patrol, and by the end of the war she had completed 8 patrols. She was credited with sinking 18 ships totalling 99,901 tons and damaging 62,481 tons of shipping. The Rasher ranked second among U.S. submarines for total tonnage sank during World War II. During her 8 patrols, she earned 2 Presidential Unit Citations, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Service Medal, and 7 Battle Stars. She was stricken from the Naval Register in 1971.
