Military
On August 6, 1763, renewed Native attacks brought more British casualties, and Bouquet saw that he could not hold his position as Native forces surrounded the British on three sides. He arranged what appeared to be a retreat by withdrawing part of his force behind Edge Hill, then reforming the troops and moving them along the hill to strike the flank of Native fighters who had rushed at the weakened British front. The attack succeeded completely, and the Native forces, repulsed by the main body of troops and supporting gunfire, fled and quickly withdrew after suffering unusually heavy losses, leaving the British in control of the battlefield. In the wider campaign of 1763 and 1764, Native forces besieged and captured several British forts, Bouquet was ordered to move with the 42nd and 77th to relieve Fort Pitt, his force was attacked on August 5, defeated the Native forces at Bushy Run on August 6, reached Fort Pitt on August 10, and the following year British troops marched into Ohio before Native groups signed a treaty on October 25 and released their British prisoners.
