Eagle Bluff Light, a historic lighthouse near Ephraim in Wisconsin’s Peninsula State Park, was built in 1868 after authorization in 1866 to guide ships through the Strawberry Channel among its islands, earning the name Guardian of the Strawberry Channel. Perched on a 76-foot bluff on the Niagara Escarpment, it is unusual in Door County for having two basements, one under the tower and one beneath the keeper’s residence. The light was automated in 1926 after the era of resident keepers, including William Duclon, whose family lived there. Restored between 1960 and 1963, it later joined the National Register of Historic Places and remains open for tours.
