General Alexander Macomb was honored as a military hero of the War of 1812 and as a scholar and civil administrator of the Michigan Territory's largest county in 1818. Macomb County was named after him, and his memory was upheld as part of the county's rich heritage in the United States bicentennial year through the efforts and dedication of Macomb County public officials, businessmen, and private citizens.
