Ness County organized in 1880 with a population of 1500 and a valuation of $204,597.00. By the day of dedication, the county's population had reached 7225 and its valuation had risen to $14,302,982.00. Ross Calhoun donated the ground, and J. K. Barnd, representative in 1903, secured a special act for the courthouse.
