Founded in 1823, Franklin is the home of Franklin College, established in 1834, and the birthplace of two Indiana governors, Paul V. McNutt, born in 1891 at 599 E. Adams, and Roger D. Branigin, born in 1902 at 205 Yandes. Notable places in the city include the Johnson County Historical Museum at 150 W. Madison, the Indiana Masonic Home and Hospital, the Methodist Home, Memorial Hospital, and the Johnson County Court House.
