LSU overcame an early 10-0 first-quarter deficit to defeat top-ranked Ohio State 38-24 in the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans. Matt Flynn tied a school record with four touchdown passes as the Tigers capped a 12-2 season by winning their second BCS title in five years and third overall. After falling behind 10-0, LSU scored 31 unanswered points over the next two quarters to put the game out of reach. The Tigers tied the score at 10-10 on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Flynn to Richard Dickson, then took the lead for good at 17-10 when Flynn connected with Brandon LaFell on another 10-yard touchdown. LSU led 24-10 at halftime after Jacob Hester scored on a 1-yard plunge set up by a Chevis Jackson interception. The lead grew to 31-10 on a 4-yard touchdown reception by Early Doucet at the 9:04 mark of the third quarter, and LSU was never threatened after that.
