Built in the 1890's by Cleveland oil pioneer Feargus B. Squire, Squire's Castle was part of his plan for a large country home on 525 acres called River Farm Estate. The structure standing today was intended only as the gatekeeper's lodge, and Squire used it in the early 1900's as a weekend retreat. Much of its exterior was constructed with Euclid bluestone quarried from what is now part of Cleveland Metroparks Euclid Creek Reservation.
