In May 1876, Father Pierre Boucher led a pilgrimage of Catholics and Protestants on an eleven mile trek seeking divine intervention in the grasshopper plague, and on that miraculous day the second rude cross was erected where a large white wooden cross stands a few rods south; their prayers were answered, and the grasshoppers left.
