Allentown

Founded in 1762 by the noted colonial leader and jurist William Allen, Allentown was known until 1834 as Northampton. The Liberty Bell was hidden here in 1777, and Revolutionary wounded were hospitalized here. The city was incorporated in 1867 and long served as a textile and cement center.
