T/SGT Cucial Julian Roberts served as an engineer and top turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress during World War II. On September 27, 1943, his aircraft, the Elusive Elcy, was attacked by enemy aircraft near Norden, Germany. A giant explosion severed the left wing, and Sgt. Roberts and nine other crew members were killed. He was born in Maynard, Arkansas, on February 118, 1920, graduated from Mayland High School in 1939, attended Urbana Junior College in Ohio from 1939 to 1940, and attended Arkansas State College from 1940 to 1941.
