The Korean War lasted from June 25th, 1950, to July 27th, 1953, and the conflict remained occupied to this day, becoming known as The Forgotten War. The first soldier from Ionia County to be killed in action was Pvt. Clayton D. Adams of the US Army. Adams left for Korea on July 20, 1950, and was en route only 13 days. A letter he wrote to his mother was received by her on the day he was killed in action.
