Nature
Magothy Bay Natural Area Preserve is a four hundred forty-five-acre protected area on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in Northampton County. Within a compact coastal setting, it combines woodlands, wetlands, and salt marshes that support a rich variety of birdlife, including waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds, and many songbirds. Diamondback terrapins and clapper rails also frequent the area, underscoring the value of its marsh and wetland edges. Owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, the preserve is open to the public but has only a parking area and two hiking trails, balancing visitor access with habitat protection under state park laws.
