The Bell Springs Formation is a Late Triassic rock unit in Wyoming and Utah, treated in Wyoming as a member of the Nugget Sandstone but recognized in Utah as a separate formation. Dating to the Norian and Rhaetian ages, it consists chiefly of very fine-grained limy sandstone. It is set apart from the upper Nugget by red to purple-red shale, very thin lime-cemented siltstone beds, and firmer calcareous beds that are ripple-laminated and weather into square-faced ledges. The unit is also significant for fossil theropod tracks assigned to Agialopous wyomingensis and may correlate with the upper part of the Chinle Formation.
