Lonnie O. Morris, Sr. was honored as a gentleman and a true friend to all children of Columbia County, known as a youth league organizer, coach, sportsman, and community leader. He had the vision for the establishment of this park, and through his leadership and determination it was created. He was inducted into the Columbia County Recreation and Leisure Services Department Hall of Fame on January 4, 2004, and was remembered as a true friend to Columbia County for life. Lonnie O. Morris, Sr. lived from 1937 to 1995.
