Lavender Peak is a 13,233-foot mountain in Colorado’s La Plata Mountains, within the Rocky Mountains and San Juan National Forest, near Mancos and just east-southeast of Hesperus Mountain. As one of Colorado’s “thirteeners,” it rises above 13,000 feet but below 14,000. The peak was named for Dwight Garrigues Lavender, who lived from 1911 to 1934 and wrote a 1932 climbing guide to the San Juan Mountains. Though not especially famous, it is significant for its place in the high La Plata landscape and for preserving the memory of a young mountaineering writer connected to the San Juan region.
